Our Mission
Our goal is simple, to ensure our kids are understanding and talking in our own mother tongue! And as they progress with our Shala, they can read and write in Marathi, connect with grandparents, and participate in various Marathi cultural programs we have. All in all, it’s all about getting better with our own language!
About the Shala
The Marathi Association of Minnesota’s Marathi Shala offers a comprehensive Marathi language learning program promoting Marathi culture. The Shala runs annually from September to June, following the public school calendar.
We provide basic to advanced classes to help students of various ages develop skills in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Marathi. In addition, we offer a Marathi music class that includes balgeet, shlok, and prarthana to enrich our students’ cultural connection.
We also welcome adult learners who are interested in learning Marathi.
Classes & Weekly Schedule
We follow the USA public school calendar — classes begin in the 2nd or 3rd week of September, run to the 1st week of June, and observe public school holidays.

A few things worth knowing before you register.

Shala Report Card
From this year, each student receives a report card on the last day of school, so parents and students can formally assess their Marathi.

Placement for Returning Students
Returning students are placed in the appropriate class based on last year’s performance.

MAM Membership Required to Perform
There is no longer a discount on MAM Membership, and parents must hold an active membership for children to perform in MAM events.
Students continue to receive their certificates once Shala results are published to BMM.
